PPA

If you or someone you love suffered a stroke as a result of taking a product that contained PPA, you're not alone. Over six billion doses of phenylpropanolamine, or PPA, were sold in the US every year after it started being used in nasal decongestants and over-the-counter weight control products. In 1991 reports of a specific kind of stroke that seemed connected to use of the drug began to increase at an alarming rate.

Once the fifth most commonly used drug in the United States, PPA was withdrawn from the consumer market in 2000 because of its link to hemorrhagic strokes. It has also been linked to a less severe form of stroke called ischemic stroke.
